Zappa is a native, North American, Humulus lupulus var. neomexicanus, recovered from the wild in New Mexico. Named for famed experimental rock musician Frank Zappa, its varied and unique flavor profile has been described as “impulsive” and “purple,” with additional descriptors including savory, minty, and tropical. Zappa can carry an IPA or pale ale, but it works exceptionally well as a complementary hop. Zappa rocks hardest in funky farmhouse ales.
