With its roots dating back to 1790, East Kent Goldings (EKG) are long established as the quintessential UK hop. UK brewers hold EKG in the same esteem as German brewers do their noble varieties, with EKG the backbone of many traditional British-style ales. EKG has a smooth, delicate, slightly spicy aroma, with floral and earthy notes. Higher dosage rates bring out subtle citrus and tropical fruit flavors not typically associated with the hop.
